Our concert on Saturday, 1 June 2019 was the apotheosis of our trip to Holland.
Christus Koningkerk (Christ King Church) was a Catholic church which had fallen into disrepair due to subsidence and the lack of funds. It was bought, underpinned, restored and converted into what is now The Hague Seventh Day Adventist Church.
On entering the grounds, it was uplifting to be greeted by a banner, emblazoned with HCGC’s photo, inviting people to “breng en geniet van” (bring someone and enjoy) the concert.
We were warmly received by the organiser and church members. At the end of the morning session we enjoyed a very tasty lunch, provided by them.
Having sung two songs during the morning service we were, individually and collectively complimented. The congregation eagerly awaited the evening performance.
HCGC was preceded by Living Waters, RSV, Trio and other participants, all whose performances were truly inspiring.
The choir delivered fourteen songs, which included enthusiastic audience participation in a Spiritual Medley (Wade In The Water, etc).
It gave me as much joy to see their enraptured faces as watching those who got up out of their seats and danced. They were rocking in the aisles! Well, maybe not in the aisles, but definitely at the back of the church.
Such a blessing!
